*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The end is here. Last night, we witnessed the series finale of Game of Thrones, one of the most popular shows in the world. It spanned eight seasons and ended...
Terribly. Or at least in my opinion.
We basically begin with how episode five left off. We see the aftermath of the battle and all the carnage as Tyrion walks through King's Landing. Everyone is in complete shock of the events that just took place.
Despite being warned by Jon that it's dangerous, Tyrion goes off alone and ends up finding his dead brother and sister, bringing him to tears.

We finally see Daenerys come out of the Red Keep, the Unsullied and Dothraki below praising their Queen. She says she is not done fighting and she will continue to fight until the entire world is liberated. I'm not surprised. After all that fun she had burning down King's Landing, she wasn't just going to stop there.
After her big speech, Tyrion comes to stand by her side. He admits to her that he freed his brother, then adds "and you slaughtered an entire city." He then takes his Hand of the Queen pin and tosses it aside. At this point I figured Tyrion just secured himself a spot with Varys as a brûlée, and he is taken away by her guards. I gotta say, Tyrion has GUTS.
Grey Worm, since the death of his girlfriend Missandei, has turned into a real heartless jerk. I loved his character and now I can't stand him. He says he's acting on his Queen's orders when he executes the Lannister soldiers, but we all know he's doing it as revenge for his former lady friend.

While in his makeshift holding cell, Tyrion tries to talk some sense into Jon. Jon is trying not to betray his Queen, but Tyrion knows he's just as concerned about how Daenerys took the city.
Daenerys finally sees the Iron Throne for the first time ever, and of course it does not live up to her expectations. She imagined it as a throne so tall you could only see the feet of Aerys when he sat on it. Still, she is overjoyed that the Iron Throne is hers.
Jon and Dany argue over how she took the city, but then she promises to do good in the world and she wants Jon beside her when she does it. Jon delivers the shocking line:
"You are my Queen. Now, and always."
He then kisses her (gross). Just when you think Jon has completely lost it, we hear the sound of his blade and see the shocked look on Daenerys' face as she bleeds to death in the arms of the person she most trusted.
I HATED this. All that buildup about Daenerys needing to be stopped and she gets the kiss-and-stab? Really?
Drogon comes up to his mom, nudging her and realizing she's dead. Drogon then grief-blasts the Iron Throne into smithereens and flies off, clutching Daenerys' body.
The most emotional I ever got in this entire episode was seeing a CGI dragon cry over his mom and even then I joked about him chucking her off the tower.

I do love that the Iron Throne burned. It was a terrible symbol of centuries of murderous ruling. It's destruction also symbolized the end of "the game of thrones".

The pacing in this episode was even worse than the others, as we got several minutes of unnecessary conversation and walking and yet we didn't get any reactions to people finding out their Queen is dead. How did they find out if Drogon took the body? Did Jon confess? Did someone see what happened? No emotion. No funeral. No REAL search for Drogon and her body. It left me frustrated that I didn't get to see any of that.
Also, Bran being chosen as king? BRAN? The most useless guy this whole season basically justifies himself being useless because he knew how everything was going to end? NOT. A. FAN. Tell that to the thousands of burned corpses lining the street Bran. Thanks for the warning on Daenerys!
Tyrion somehow survives all this and becomes the Hand of Bran, which is great because Tyrion has always been one of my favorite characters consistently throughout the entire show. I was really rooting for him to make it to the end but thought he was done for after he dissed Daenerys.

The last half hour of the episode wasn't very exciting. Brienne gave Jaime more than he deserved by writing what she did in the Book of the Kingsguard.
"Died protecting his Queen."
Well she died too so I don't know how accurate that is.
I wanted Brienne to write her own story in there because SHE DESERVES IT.
Jon is left exiled in shame. Grey Worm wanted him dead for what he did but his exile to the Night's Watch was the compromise.
Sansa is named Queen of the North after she asks Bran to leave the North as an independent state.
Arya is going on her Eat. Pray. Love journey to find what lies beyond where the map of Westeros ends. I wanted her to be Master of War for Sansa but I see her going off on her own. It makes sense.
It was sad to see that after all the time and pain it took to get the Stark family back together, they're splitting up again. They'll probably never see each other again, and neither will we.
I hate how Jon's story ends, walking out with Tormund and the Wildlings. He deserved better. I get that he's always been an outsider, even when people recognized him as their King, but he was such a great leader and I wanted to see him end in a higher position, if not King.

Overall, I am not super impressed with the season as a whole. I think it was rushed and there wasn't enough episodes to end the series correctly. I have that feeling when you have to sneeze but you just can’t. I’m not satisfied.
Of course I would never discredit all the incredibly hardworking people who spent countless hours making this season. However the payoff just wasn’t great. I would never sign that petition to try to get them to remake Season 8 (like over half a million people have) because it isn’t our right as consumers to demand something like that. We have every right to dislike it and be disappointed with it, as I am, but we move on.
They do have some spinoff series in the works so maybe we will get some satisfaction from those. Either way, it is the end of an ERA. EIGHT YEARS of Game of Thrones has come to an end!

Guess I'll have to find something else to watch and rant about.
